Driving toward the Atacama, the roadside became a parade of South American fauna — vicuñas, alpacas, and llamas appearing by the hundreds. But the scene that stopped us in our tracks came just past Socaire: a herd of roughly 200 alpacas and llamas grazing across an open field blanketed in tiny yellow wildflowers.
